Gillian:- A great walk today, mostly on the Downs with far-reaching views, and the sea glinting in the distance. Thirteen of us and Ben the dog set off in good spirits from Lancing Ring, with the sun shining encouragingly. Eventually, we descended to Steyning, and a deviation from the original planned route took us to Bramber Castle, an ideal coffee stop, enabling us to explore the historic sight. A glorious walk along the banks of the Adur river brought us to our lunch stop at Small Dole. One highlight was seeing a pair of swans with no fewer than 6 cygnets swimming proudly on the river. After lunch a pleasant walk through autumn-tinted woodland led us to Truleigh Hill, the steepest climb of the walk, but we were well rewarded with sweeping views and a spell of easy walking as we descended once again to the Adur river valley. One final climb, not so steep this time, returned us to the car park. Thanks to Kay for a great walk and once again, lovely to see some new faces.
